Is CDW mandatory?
No, CDW is optional. However, we strongly recommend it for peace of mind — particularly if you are a newer or younger driver. Flexar's insurance excess is tiered based on your age and driving experience: drivers aged 22 and above with at least 2 years of experience have a base excess of $3,000, while younger or less experienced drivers face a higher excess of up to $8,000. The less driving experience you have, the more you stand to benefit from CDW, as it reduces your excess by $2,000 regardless of which tier you fall under.
When is CDW worth it?
At just $0.02 per minute, CDW is a low-cost way to protect yourself against a potentially large out-of-pocket expense. For a typical 30-minute trip, CDW costs less than $1 — but in the event of an accident, it could save you up to $2,000 on your excess. For most drivers, the cumulative cost of adding CDW across many trips is far lower than the financial exposure of a single accident without it.
Can I opt in or out of CDW for each trip?
Yes. Before each reservation, you will be prompted in the app to add CDW. Simply tap YES to include it for that trip or NO to skip it. Your choice applies to that booking only and does not affect future trips.
